Svetlana Kuznetsova won the women's singles title at Roland Garros after beating her fellow Russian player Dinara Safina in the final, score 6-4, 6-2.
Dinara Safina, the tournament's number 1 favorite is at her second consecutive lost Roland Garros final, after being beaten by Ana Ivanovic in 2008.
On the other end, Kuznetsova (favorite number 7) revenged the last year's defeat in the semifinals by the same Dinara Safina. At 23, this is her second grand slam title in her career, after winning the US Open in 2004. She also lost other two grand slam finals, at Roland Garros in 2006 and at the US Open in 2007. Each time she was beaten by Justine Henin.
