The impossible has happened. Rafael Nadal, the winner of the last 4 consecutive titles at Roland Garros, left the competition today, having been defeated in the last 16 by Robin Soderling, 2-6, 7-6(2), 4-6, 6-7(2).

It wasn't Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic, it wasn't even Andy Murray. It was Robin Soderling against all odds, in a game where many had bet if Rafael Nadal was going to lose a set. Even though things looked like getting back to normal when Nadal "the king of clay" had equaled the score at 1-1, Robin's fury had only started. It was undoubtedly the match of his lifetime for Soderling.

The Swedish player ended an incredible run of 24 consecutive games that Nadal won on the clay of Paris, which translated into 4 consecutive titles. Now with both Nadal and Djokovic eliminated from the competition, this could be a golden opportunity for Federer to win the only grand slam title that he misses.
